Lloyd's primary purpose is to foster the professional development of the field of breathwork. His work in developing Integrative Breathwork Therapy (IBT) as a standardized, evidence based approach to mental health is central to this mission.

Lloyd works in the School of Psychology at the Australian Catholic University (Brisbane) as a lecturer and course coordinator for the Bachelor of Counselling and Master of Clinical Counselling programs.

He holds a Bachelor of Psychology from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a Graduate Certificate in Mental Health (Psychotherapy) from the University of Queensland, School of Medicine (UQ). Currently he is completing a PhD at the Queensland University of Technology. This study focusses on 1) assessing the effectiveness of a manualized breathwork training in teaching therapists the Integrative Breathwork Therapy approach, and 2) conducting a clinical trial of Integrative Breathwork Therapy as an intervintion for depression with comorbid anxiety.

Lloyd has been practicing Breathwork since 1984. He has studied with the pioneers of Breathwork and became a certified Breathwork practitioner in 1988. The development of IBT is an outgrowth of many years of clinical practice and the research Lloyd has undertaken in more recent years.

As a psychotherapist, Lloyd embraces both Western and Eastern approaches to healing and mental health. Lloyd's approach to counselling and psychotherapy has been very much influenced by many years of psychological study and personal practice of Breathwork. This inner work has led to an approach that fully acknowledges just how important being grounded in the body is to mental health and overall wellbeing.

Lloyd also takes a person-centred and existential approach to therapy as well as having a deep appreciation of psychodynamic models of therapy. He has a special interest in therapy for people suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder.
