As a psychotherapist, Lloyd embraces both Western and Eastern approaches to healing and mental health.
As well as maintaining a private practice, Lloyd works at the Australian Catholic University (Brisbane) as a lecturer and course coordinator for the Masters of Counselling program in the School of Psychology.
He holds a Bachelor of Psychology from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a Graduate Certificate in Mental Health (Psychotherapy) from the University of Queensland, School of Medicine (UQ). Currently he is completing a PhD at the Queensland University of Technology. This study focusses on 1) assessing the effectiveness of a manualized breathwork training in teaching therapists the breathwork approach, and 2) conducting a clinical trial of Breathwork as an intervintion for depression with comorbid anxiety.
Lloyd has been practicing Breathwork since 1984. He has studied with the pioneers of Breathwork and became a certified Breathwork practitioner in 1988. In 1995, Lloyd wrote, What Do I Really Want: A Guide to Personal Happiness, which is a self-help book that explores the effects childhood can have on self-esteem and our ability to live authentic lives. Originally published by HarperCollins. Recently translated into Korean.
As well as teaching Breathwork, Lloyd works alongside Pernilla Siebenfreund offering individual psychotherapy and couples counselling. Visit Healing Beyond Words for more details.
Lloyd's approach to counselling and psychotherapy has been very much influenced by many years of psychological study and personal practice of Breathwork. This inner work has led to an approach that fully acknowledges just how important being grounded in the body is to mental health and overall wellbeing.
Other interests of Lloyd's include surfing, stainability,
peak oil, and the
modernist small house movement.
